The Tinwood Foundation stewards a large collection of Southern Black vernacular art from the post-civil rights era.
Using our collection, and in partnerships with other institutions, we educate diverse audiences in order to expand the history of American art.
The Art Form
The Tinwood Foundation’s extensive collection focuses on Southern Black art created from the second half of the twentieth century to the present. The collection encompasses a wide range of media, including paintings, sculptures, drawings, and patchwork quilts.
